There are 142M registered students in the US and the European Union (all grades). Of those, 47.5% are registered in at least one foreign language (over 95% of all students in the EU are registered in one or more foreign languages).
This results in 67.5M foreign language students in the US and EU alone. But of course, English is the most commonly-taught foreign language. It is estimated that there are 1.5 billion learners of English as a second language worldwide, and this number is expected to grow to nearly 2 billion by 2028.
