The Year in Review

Last Updated on

As we close 2016, we’d like to share with you the highlights of these last 12 months, which have been momentous for our young company.

First and foremost, we need to thank you, our users. From those who took a leap of faith and bought a product with no track record (Boston College, Horace Mann, University of Saint Thomas …), to those who have selflessly worked with our team to identify and resolve bugs as they found them (EOI Maresme in Spain, Georgetown Day School, Ohlone College… and so many others). We just can’t thank you enough.

If you read our blog regularly, you know that, after months of testing, Extempore became commercially available in the summer of 2016. In these last few months, we’ve seen almost 3,600 new students sign up and use the app. 3,000 questions have been created and an amazing 14,000 attempts have been submitted. Extempore is now being used to teach Spanish, English, French, German, Italian, Chinese, Russian, Hindi, and Hawaiian. And we know this is only the beginning.

We are very proud of how Extempore is changing the way languages are taught: from an emphasis in writing and quiz-taking, our young platform is helping instructors and students put Speaking Practice at the core of foreign language teaching. We know, from science and from experience, that this is a more effective (and fun!) way of teaching.

Of course, we have great plans for the future. We will continue to enhance the app, we will simplify the way students sign up, and more importantly, in the next few months we will add a web-based student experience, which will offer everyone another way of accessing Extempore.

Again, we thank you all for your support, wish you a very happy end of 2016, and look forward to working with you, and to helping you teach better, in 2017 and beyond.

The Extempore Team.
